Marketing of the soil fumigant Basamid G in Europe BASF and Eurobrom B.V. agree co-operation

BASF Aktiengesellschaft, Ludwigshafen, has agreed a marketing co-operation with Eurobrom B.V., Rijswijk, Netherlands. Eurobrom, a 100% marketing subsidiary of the Dead Sea Bromine Group, Beer Sheva, Israel, will in future market and distribute BASF’s soil fumigant Basamid G in France, Italy, Spain, Greece and Israel.

The background to this co-operation is the necessity to have additional soil fumigants in the market as a result of the reduction of Methyl Bromide under the provisions of the Montreal Protocol of the United Nations. Methyl Bromide under the terms of this protocol has to be progressively phased out in developed countries until the year 2015.

Through the co-operation of BASF and Eurobrom, it is intended that Basamid G should gradually replace the hitherto leading soil fumigant Methyl Bromide and that it should be sold through the latter’s successful custom applicator structure ensuring a long term soil fumigant alternative to Methyl Bromide.

Basamid G is a chemical soil fumigant for controlling nematodes, soil borne diseases, soil insects, and weeds about to germinate. It has been produced by BASF since 1963.
